Reynir is adventurous, having made the decision to run away from home in seeking a less boring life. His decisions are spur of the moment and rash, and he often doesn’t think something through too much before embarking on it. He joins a crew before asking terms and conditions, stows away in a box and gets shipped to the wrong destination.

He tries to be helpful, only to the detriment of the other characters who find him annoying and less than useful. He often bothers them by offering to do small tasks like clean up, but sometimes offers to do something before realizing he doesn’t have the skill set to do it. This allows him to volunteer for just about anything, which he then executes without much complaint. He even thanks characters for finding chores for him to do.

He is not taken seriously by any of the characters, and the only one who does so even a little (Onni) believes him to be incompetent. Reynir sometimes foreshadows danger, but he is ignored and treated like a nuisance. This is because he has no experience as a mage, though he has innate talent as one, just no training. He discovers this late, so he is unable to convince the others.

Reynir is also very talkative, which goes with his exuberant spirit. He has a bit of a motormouth, and enjoys socializing with the other characters, seeming to either fail to see or otherwise ignore when they’re annoyed by him. He is generally positive, happy, and high-spirited.

However, Reynir is also prone to dramatics, calling himself an idiot when he realizes his mistakes, getting upset with Lalli when he finally realizes everyone is ignoring his visions. Mikkel even asks if he’s become depressed, though Reynir denies this.

Reynir does not always follow rules, and neither is he terribly concerned with personal space. He often visits mage space even though Lalli and Onni have both asked him not to, and generally he uses it to communicate with Onni despite the latter’s insistence that Reynir use a more electronic means of communication.

Often Reynir adapts to a new situation quickly and with great joy, so it is no wonder that he is so excited at the prospect of becoming a mage and decides on that as an aspiration within a few days. He tries hard, bless him, to do the best he can, and he always seeks improvement.

bí, bí og blaka

In year 0, a boat washed up on the shores of Spain carrying individuals suffering from a mysterious disease. Within a few days, Iceland had closed all its borders and the disease quickly became an epidemic. With borders closing and people dying left and right, the known world is limited to the nordic countries and the highest population is Iceland with about 200,000 people or 75% of the world's population. Much of the rest of the world, including the other nordic countries, are considered uncleansed land known as The Silent World. The Silent World is overrun by creatures called trolls. Much of the cleansed land outside of Iceland is concentrated around the coastlines.

Reynir is the youngest of all his siblings, and he's an "accident." His older siblings are all born from a program that ensures children who are immune to the Illness, and because Reynir is not immune, his parents are overprotective of him. Due to this, he grows up on an insular sheep farm listening to stories of his siblings go on adventures and coming home to regale him with their tales.

His adventurous spirit leads him to sneak passage to Reykjavik where he boarded the Túnfiskurinn, a ship headed for Bornholm. As Bornholm is the southernmost point of the known world, Reynir mistakenly believes that it will be tropical, though it is in Denmark. He discovers after he takes a job as a dishwasher that he does not have the correct paperwork to disembark in Denmark, so he will not be allowed to leave the ship and will have to go back to Iceland. The ship makes a stop and loads up food crates, so Reynir hides himself in a crate. Unfortunately, it was only one stop on the way to the final destination, and he was delivered as foodstuffs to a crew on an expedition around the known world's uncharted territory.

He was then taken prisoner by the crew, whereupon he told his life story and offered to help them in exchange to let him come with them. He offers up many services to the other crewmembers, much to their chagrin as they find him annoying and useless.

Reynir gets put to sleep by Mikkel and dreams that he’s on a boat carrying skeletons. He runs aimlessly in his dream until he happens upon Lalli, who tries to chase him out. Reynir, eager to try and find his way, keeps stumbling around in Lalli’s mage landscape, eventually running into Tuuri’s older brother Onni, who believes him to be a spirit and threatens him. Due to his lack of knowledge over his mage powers (or that he even has mage powers), he quickly disappears from the mage landscape.

On a mission to a hospital, Reynir is scratched by one of the trolls and quarantined by Mikkel. Sigrun has to assure him that he won’t die. He feels spirits around their vehicle and more-qualified mage Lalli is sleeping, so Reynir decides to see if he can contact Onni, but he is forced out of the dream by a sheepdog that recurs in his mage-dreams. The crew spend the day scoping the area and Reynir mentions the spirits to a few of his crew, but he’s not taken very seriously. During dinner, he tells Tuuri that they need to book it but it’s almost evening, and Sigrun denies this request.

Immediately, a spirit descends and knocks out the cast, so Reynir politely asks the spirit to leave and prays for help, which Onni hears over some sort of mage network. He calls Onni to thank him the next day, and to ask for help with mage training, but Onni tells him that the Finnish and Icelandic gods are different, and he doesn’t know about Icelandic magic.

The crew move along, and Reynir teaches himself some runes, though the others still fail to take him seriously. While sleeping, he meets Onni again, and tells him he’s getting visions, then leading him to a church where they meet a pastor woman who speaks to them briefly and cryptically.

Eventually a spirit that has been stalking the crew comes out of hiding, and Reynir’s sheepdog goes to Onni to beg him for assistance. They weaken the spirit, and the following day Lalli takes a bunch of Reynir’s runes to the spirit to see if any will ward it off. One appears successful, and they paint the rune on the side of their tank.

Reynir grows worried and fed up with no one heeding his warnings, shaking Lalli as he asks why he won't help him find the pastor woman who he believes will help them, to which Lalli bites him and Emil punches him in the face.

This history is caught up to page 701.
